On The Internet
Part 4 - Banner Advertising & The Best Banner Exchange
Banner advertising is one of
the oldest and still one of the most popular ways to advertise on
the Internet. Look at the top right of this page for an example
of a banner.
In their earlier days banners
were responsive and a great way to advertise but nowadays they don't
perform quite as well. This has brought criticism from some corners
because paid banner advertising has traditionally worked on a pay-per-impression
and not a pay-per-click basis. So as the percentage of people clicking
on banner ads has gone down the relative cost per click has gone
up.
Thankfully the industry is adjusting
and pay-per-click banner advertising is becoming more common.
Free banner exchanges are an
alternative to paying for banner advertising. You put someone else's
banner on your web site and every time it is viewed (or clicked
on depending on the deal) you earn credit toward having your banner
viewed (or clicked on) on another web site.
The leading banner exchange is
Free-Banners.com. Click this small graphic to learn more
.
I only use
Free-Banners.com because membership includes
a lot of features not found in other exchanges including the following:
-
FriendSearch affiliate program
is automatically integrated into your membership earning you
cash from any banners you have in your site.
-
Earn $2 worth of advertising
money for each member that signs under you and 20% of their
credits for life.
-
Become a gold member by putting
the banner near the top of the page. The reward is your banner
will also appear at the top of other web pages in the network.
| TIP 1: Everyone
has seen thousands of banners and that is the reason they
don't work so well anymore. If you want to get people to
click on your banner it needs to grab attention. Animated
banners that move and banners that look like forms or buttons
work well.
TIP 2:
As I said earlier you can pay for banner advertising as
well, in fact most banner advertising is paid. The exchange
I recommended above also has banner packages you can buy
as part of your paid advertising budget.
TIP 3: I read an interesting article recently about banner advertising. Banners were found to get more attention if they were:
- animated
- relatively simple
- had eyes in them
- expanded on mouseover
- did not have a defined border separating it from the rest of the page
- was among the text rather than at the top of the page (I'm obviously not doing this one right!)
I've just ordered some new banners for a product of mine and asked for these features to be incorporated.
